Head over to Passion of the Weiss for a double dose of the mighty Fela Kuti — two previously unheard performances, one in Amsterdam in 1981 and one on the man’s home turf in Lagos in 1988. Absolutely amazing.
On a related note, I finally got around to watching the documentary Fela Kuti: Music Is The Weapon last week (it’s streaming on ye olde Netflix). Incredible stuff, capturing Fela and band delivering unstoppable grooves onstage and delivering pure righteousness offstage.
